Yes, we’re going to drive this analogy into the ground, I promise.

Before you’re ready to begin plotting your signposts, there are a few things that will make the process easier. You probably already have these things in mind, but if not, never fear. The next few tips will help you figure them out.

In order to plot, you’ll need to know:

• Who are your hero and heroine?
• What are their jobs/situations?
• What do they want?
• What tropes will you use?
• What are the hero and heroine’s conflicts?

Don’t worry if you’re not sure yet, but start getting your brain turning over these terms as we explore them in the following pages.
